Supporting Character Analysis 

" Anything is possible when you have the right people there to support you"

I'm sure everyone is the main character of their own personal and internalized movies, but unfortunately, not everyone can be the main character of this film project! Nonetheless, supporting characters can be just as important if not more! A movie would be nothing without all the characters to bring life to the scenes and camera. There is no "i" in "team" and no movie without support!

So you already know about our main character Rachel Gomez but let's talk about the planets and galaxies behind the star. Although the opening to the film doesn't allow for the opportunity to dive into all the characters including their stories and personalities, my group and I had devised and imagined significant roles and backgrounds for each just because our imaginations went wild! In all honestly, I think we got a little carried away and almost thought out a whole entire movie and character storylines!

Introducing and explaining our cast!

Santana Jones by Kimora Parboosingh( Me):

Santanna Jones is the main character's best friend! From the film opening alone this concept wasn't easy to gauge but if the movie were to continue the audience would see that Sanatana and Rachel are as close as it gets. Sanatana wants nothing more than the best for her bestie, Rachel! If the movie were to continue the audience would see Sanatana not only as a supporting character but as a supportive friend to Rachel. In the opening of the film, Santanna Jones (aka me)  was wearing a brown cropped top, black shorts, and black hightop converse. I was also wearing gold jewelry including rings, a necklace, and earrings. With her attire more muted than the main character, Rachel was able to stand out more. Although, the costuming of Santana was intentional in showing that her character is a bright and bubbly character. The gold jewelry gives a warm and bright feeling to the character which correlates perfectly to her personality. Her outfit is casual, fun, and subtle making her character seem friendly and approachable. Moreover, the character's hair is down and done naturally showcases Santanna as a  relaxed, fun, and outgoing personality. 

Kayla Lewis by Naline Pierre:

My group and I didn't really dive in deep when considering Kayla's character. In the opening for the film, she was wearing a beige top with flowy pants which showcases her as a free-spirited, fun, and nonchalant personality. Her only line in the film opening is "Hey, Rachel" which establishes Kayal as a welcoming and comforting presence. She gets along with others, likes to have a fun time, and enjoys peace and calmness. 

Ashely Martine by Wayra Valencia:

Ashely isn't really close with Rachel, the main character, and prods Rachel with a question about her and her boyfriend. Although Ashley isn't the most prominent character she is significant in that her question reveals the truth about the nature and problems of Rachel's relationship(flashback) while also showcasing that Rachel lies about the stability and status of her relationship. Therefore she is a crucial side character. Ashely is wearing white shorts, a black tank top, and sandals. The white showcases Ashely's purity as she is more innocent, reserved, conservative, and shy in comparison to the rest of the characters.

Ellie Lopez by Lucia Garcia:

Ellie is wearing black biker shorts, a black crop top with white faces. and hightop vans. Although Ellie isn't necessarily a memorable or significant character she is important and she adds to the ambiance of the scene and makes the party seem more full and lively, Essentially the more the merrier! Ellie's shirt choice was also intentional as it alludes to the fact that Rachel feels like she has to put on a happy face for others. The white face on Ellie's shirt showcases the hidden sad face Rachel feels internally and is covered by the happy mask she puts on.

Ruby Francis by Natasha Irani:

Now we have the villain. Although the main conflict in the film is the internal battle that Rachel fights, Ruby is not a friend to Rachel and prays for her downfall which proves to be an issue in the film's opening. The film's opening showcases that Ruby is intentionally coming between Rachel and her boyfriend with the goal of stealing him from her. Ruby wears a colorful top, although still not as bright as Rachel's, it still showcases Ruby's attempt to outshine and be better than Rachel. This showcases Ruby's jealous and malicious nature. Ruby is prone to giving mean looks to Rachel and in actuality is Rachel's enemy regardless of her attempts to seem like a friend. 

Caleb Smith by Jacob Pina:

Caleb is Rachel's boyfriend. He is significant in that the toxicity and nature of their relationship showcase just one of the hardships prevalent in Rachel's life that she has to keep hidden. Caleb, along with Ruby, is the antagonist of the film as Caleb proved to be a bad boyfriend in his cheating and inability to be the good guy that Rachel deserves. He is seen wearing black jeans, a blue Nike sweater, and Nike sneakers.

I want to give a special appreciation to our supporting characters for bringing the film opening to life and to my group for helping me in creating and planning the vision for each character. I couldn't have done it without everyone's help, commitment and dedication!
