 Preparing to Film!

The time to film is finally approaching! 

Preparing to film might be the most extensive part of the process so far. A lot of discussion and work has gone into preparation for filming. Although, I have loved learning the art of filming and all the behind-the-scenes that will inevitably lead to our final product. Let me lay out all the general details that my group and I have devised in order to have a successful day of filming!

Above is the list of our beautiful cast! My group and I would have loved to have a bigger cast in order to create the illusion of a party and to get a high-energy feel for our film, but we just didn't have access to enough people willing to participate. We plan to compensate for the lack of extras or cast members with editing such as including background noise and fillers to create the illusion of more people. Another idea we had was to make the party more of a get-together or small gathering instead of trying to make convey a huge teenage party. We are still determining which plan is best but will probably do a combination or medium of both, meaning that we will try to make the film seem like there are more people than there actually is, but won't make it too exaggerated. Overall I'm excited to work with the cast we DO have and see how it all comes together!

Costumes:

When it comes to costuming we don't have to worry about making anyone look like a zombie or creating extravagant Star Wars outfits, but we do have to make sure that the clothes align with the intention of our film. Since our film is a drama it resembles real-life pretty closely so in this instance our costumes are just what would be depicted as typical teenage attire. Being a group composed of teenagers it was quite easy figuring out what each cast member should wear, some jean shorts and a cute top, and call it a day. Although, this was our initial perception of what costuming would be like we were proven wrong. Figuring out what everyone should wear was generally easy since we ourselves are teenagers and have a good idea of what teenagers wear, but it was a challenge figuring out how to make the main character stand out. We ended up deciding that she should wear pink and dramatically accessorize!!! Our goal in this was to make sure that Rachel( the name of the main character) stands out from the group and cast so that focus and emphasis are on her.

Props:

My group and I never really went too into detail regarding props in our discussions. We did mention that we want to be able to best create a fun, energetic, and youthful feel to the opening. In order to portray this mood, we decided to add props such as a red solo cup since this object is often associated with parties. Furthermore, we wanted to solo in on lip gloss. This prop is significant and may likely be shown in an isolated or close-up shot because this lip gloss is symbolic of the main character's need to be superficial and perfect. Moreover, the lip gloss is also fitting for a youthful and girly feel to the movie. My group and I also discussed included a disco ball to intensify the energy for the scene.

Locations/Dates/Times:

Every group member had different school and home-related obligations along with personal lives, so coming up with a schedule for filming was certainly a challenge but we have devised a workable schedule for now. For now, the agreed filming dates are February 11th, February 13th, and February 19th. On the 11th at 4:30 we will be filming the bathroom scene at Alexa's house. The 13th at 1:30 will be the party scene in which Lucia's house was the designated location. The 19th was the date decided to film the flashback scenes which don't have a particular location set yet.

Script:

So my group and I did have a draft script written which was very helpful in helping envision our opening scene but also when making our storyboard. The script is not set in stone but is roughly a good idea of how we want our film to go and what we want each specific character to say.

Film equipment:

Luckily, Alexa's father has allowed our group to use his cannon camera and tripod! I am so excited about this because it will help our film look higher quality and more professional. The tripod will aid in stability and the camera will allow for clearer cleaner shots. Moreover, we will be using two mac products, my laptop and Alexa's home computer, to utilize iMovie for editing. I'm so grateful we have the tool and equipment available to elevate our filming process and overall opening scene!
