The Main Character

 The Star of it All

Presenting... Our own Elle Woods remake... drum roll, please...
RACHEL GOMEZ!

Do you guys see the similarity or WHAT?!
To the left picture above you will see the stunning and flawless Elle Woods and to the right, our very own Desiree Haghgoo as the gorgeous and perfect Rachel Gomez! The similarity is just too uncanny am I right?!

Okay so, our main character isn't exactly an ideal reincarnation of Elle Woods even though that would be so fun to try and do, but our character takes a bit of a different route. Elle Woods is outgoing, extraordinary, happy, bold, and unapologetically herself. Similarly, Rachel Gomez is outgoing, seemingly perfect, and the girl everyone wants to be. Differently, from Elle Woods's character, Rachel Gomez's seemingly perfect life with the perfect boyfriend, perfect social life, and perfect home situation, is a facade. Rachel is the perfect girl, or so she wants people to think. In reality, she is struggling to hold herself together as she deals with personal hardships, pain, and depression. Mentally she is far from perfect, but she still tries to have everyone perceive her as the perfect girl.

In order to make Rachel seem perfect, my group and I utilized the color pink as it showcases beauty, femininity, confidence, and boldness. Furthermore, the accessories of sunglasses, lipgloss, earrings, and a handbag add to this character's fun, girly, and perfect feel. In particular, the lipgloss is notable as it is symbolic of the superficial and perfect facade Rachel feels like she needs to keep up. In the film opening, she applies lipgloss in a time of vulnerability and desperation as she struggles to maintain calmness and perfection.

In terms of personality and communication, Rachel comes across as... you guessed it... PERFECT. When asked questions she has the perfectly calculated answers, "I'm fine", "things are going great", and "yeah it's good". She doesn't want anyone to see behind her seemingly normal words as they will find pain, frustration, depression, exhaustion, and anxiety. To the plain eye, Rachel seems fun, flirty, kind, and outgoing, but no one knows about the pain, insecurities, self-hatred, and depression that weighs down on her. Will she overcome her depression? Can she learn it's okay to not be perfect? will she finally be able to show others her hurt and pain? Will she succumb to pressure? Will someone see through Rachel's facade? Will Rachel Gomes be okay?
