Color Color Color

"Palm Trees never change color" - proverb

The various colors were a major factor in our film opening! We considered, utilized, and manipulated color to aid our movie and make it the best it can be!

The color Pink! The color pink was a major component of our film. The main character was designated the color pink and it is incorporated into her clothing to help differentiate her from other characters. We chose the color pink specifically because it added vibrancy and personality to the main character. The color showcased her feminity and desire to retain her girly and perfect appearance. The pink also speaks to her higher status in regard to her social life. In addition, pink typically symbolizes beauty in films which is appropriate for the main character as she is portrayed as a pretty and perfect girl, but the use of pink also showcases the superficial beauty she forces herself to get lost in and maintain rather than letting people see the colors she possesses on the inside, that aren't necessarily so bright and pretty. Moreover, the color pink is tied in with the color of the text in the title and is even seen in the credits. 

In additon, when considering the title, behind the pink text there is a slight blue glitch. This incorporation of blue in a subtle manner showcases the saddness behind Rachel's percived perfect life. The blue foreshawdows the fact that sooner rather than later, Rachel's true feeling will be revealed. 

Moreover when editing the film, we decided to saturate the main componets of the film intensly in order to add color and vibrancy to the film. This also helped when contrasting the lower and sadder tones of the bathroom scene. When the audience watching the opening they are stircken with color and brightness, so when the opening transitions to the bathrrom scene the duller and depressing tones are more noticeble due to the brightness of the previous shots. Although the saturation for the bathrrom scene is untouched, the natural lack of color can be noted by the audience in clear contrast to the highly saturated shots of the previous moments of the opening. The audience should be able to make a clear diffrentiation between the scenes and thier corrresonding moods due to the inclusion of color or the lack there of. In the scenes of the opening that have bright colors emphasized by saturation, there are moments of happiness or percieved perfection, where as duller or muted colors/ filters suggest a solem mood. The only filters used were for the flashback scene in order to showcase a difference in time but also a drop in mood. 

Overall, color was a major componet of our film and helped in setting mood and creating meaning!
